Touching Lives for Christ...

Where is the church located?

Glenwood Presbyterian Church is located at 3190 Grand Ave. in the Glenwood neighborhood of DeLand.  From Spring Garden Rd. (Rt. 15A) turn onto Glenwood Rd.; go 1 1/2 miles and turn right onto Grand Ave.; go almost 1 mile; the church will be on your left; turn left onto Depot St.  Turn left again into the parking lot.

How do I find the Sanctuary?

From the parking lot, you may take the walkway between the two buildings.  This leads towards Grand Ave.; turn right towards the newer building to enter the sanctuary.  At the entrance, there will be a Welcome Cart with information about the church.

Will I be singled out as a guest?

We do generally take a few minutes during the service to greet each other, sharing the peace of Christ with our fellow worshippers.  Prior to this, if you are comfortable with it, you may be given the opportunity to introduce yourself to the congregation.

Is the church handicapped accessible?

Yes, the newer building is handicapped accessible thru the double doors of the Barnes building or thru the front doors of the Sanctuary.  The older building is accessible thru the doors facing Grand Ave.

What is the contemporary service like?

The contemporary service begins at 8:30 am in the Sanctuary.  The opening worship is led by our worship team.  The music is a blend of styles.  The children come forward for a brief children’s message, after which pre-schoolers go to the nursery.  The same sermon is offered at both services.  Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.

What is the traditional service like?

The traditional service begins at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary.  The great hymns of the church plus some more modern ones are sung, accompanied by organ or piano.  There are prayers of adoration, confession, and thanksgiving; and responsive readings.  The same sermon is offered at both services.  Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.  Friends from the Duvall Home usually join us at this service.  (The Duvall Home is a Special Ministry of the Presbyterian Church (USA) for developmentally disabled children and adults.)

What about children in worship?

Children are welcomed in worship at either service.  At the 8:30 am service, our new Children’s Church program provides an active and engaging learning experience for children.  After we sing a few songs in the sanctuary the kids are dismissed to Children’s Church in the Barnes Building.   This program uses singing, video, drama, art, and cooking to connect kids with stories from the Bible.

What about Sunday School?

Adult and youth Sunday school classes start at 9:45 am.  High school classes are held in the youth room in Barnes building (closest to the parking lot).  A college class meets in the administration building south of the sanctuary, and adult classes are held in the Parlor and Fellowship Hall in the older building to the north of the Sanctuary.  All ages gather in the Barnes building at 9:30 am for fellowship and refreshments.  Children’s church is conducted during the 8:30 am service for kids elementary aged and younger.
